It is not uncommon for safety accidents caused by valve openings to be accidentally opened in the inspection and repair work at the worksite. so what should I do now? The valve lockout can solve this problem. Valve lockouts belong to a category of industrial safety locks. The purpose is to ensure that the equipment using the valve is closed and kept in a safe state. Prevent accidental operation of valve equipment, causing injury or death. Next, let us take a closer look at how to use the valve lockout.

Here is the content list:

l Categories of valve lockout

l Lead seal/wire valve lockout

l Single lock

Standard Gate Valve Lockout

Categories of valve lockout

Specific valve lock tags can be roughly divided into four types: valve safety locks, adjustable gate valve lockouts, universal valve lockouts, and adjustable cable valve lockouts. Valve locks usually use colors to warn the operator of the valve, but such measures do not have any compulsory insurance. For example, painting the valve body and/or valve operating unit (e.g. gearbox) in red means that the valve must be kept closed, and green means that it must be kept open.

Lead seal/wire valve lockout

Lead seals usually have metal or plastic ties to lock the valve in the correct position. When you need to operate the valve, cut off the cable tie. Usually, this kind of valve lockout cannot be reused. The red lead seal is generally used to lock the valve in the closed position, which is called "lead seal closed, (CSC)". In contrast, the green lead seal is used to lock the valve in the open position, which is called "lead seal open, (CSO)". The lead lock with the key can be reused, but it is not widely used in the oil and gas industry. The wire lock locks a valve in the closed position. The principle of the wire lock is the same as the lead seal, and the insurance level is also similar.

Single lock

The single lock is used to lock a valve in the open or closed position. There are two keyholes on the body of the single lock, and a key is fixed on the top of the valve body. The valve cannot be operated without another free key. The free key should be stored in the key cabinet, taken out when necessary, and inserted into the free key socket on the lock body to operate the valve. After operating the valve, the key originally locked on the valve is unlocked and used to perform the next operation. The single lock is a single lock body and double key design. This design has many advantages, including feedback of valve position information to the control room. The free key should not stay in the lock body and must be retracted and stored in the key cabinet after use. The key cabinet can be placed in the control room or near the valve.

Many production facilities will be equipped with pressure relief valves. Whether the performance of the valve is intact plays a key role in the safe operation of the device. Locking the valves is to ensure that they maintain the correct valve position, avoid human error, and then ensure the safe operation of the system. When the valve must be kept closed, the valve lockout can prevent the operator from making mistakes and opening the valve by mistake.
